Many countries around the world have been devastated by the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. Medical research has found that levels of glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78, mRNA) in the lungs and blood of infected patients are significantly increased. GRP78 forms complexes with viral particles, affecting the respiratory tract and causing infections in various organs of the body, including the kidneys, heart, liver, brain, and pancreas. When the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) experiences oxidative stress, leading to an imbalance in GRP78 levels, it can trigger disturbances in cholesterol and lipid levels, activate a cascade of inflammatory responses, increase the risk of metabolic syndrome, immune dysregulation, tumor formation, and even lead to pulmonary fibrosis, resulting in decreased lung capacity and reduced oxygen levels in the body. This decline in lung function in elderly individuals is closely associated with early-onset Alzheimer's disease and brain degeneration.

In a study on acute pneumonia conducted by NK Stimu in university biology tests, it was found that there was a significant reduction in lung edema by 80%. The treatment effectively suppressed GRP78 levels, eliminated inflammatory factors (Interleukin-6, IL-6), and TNF. GRP78 is a molecular chaperone protein located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of human cells, responsible for maintaining cellular homeostasis. The role of GRP78 in the aging process and various diseases, particularly in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease, suggests that it could serve as an effective therapeutic target.
